The Sisters of Notre Dame in Uganda have a mission to serve the poorest rural families and to offer students a comprehensive education. In a very short time, the Sisters of Notre Dame built St. Julie school into one of the top-ranked high schools in Uganda, equipping students who otherwise might not have any education at all with the tools they need for success. Because so many travel long distances over rural roads to attend school, students board at St. Julie’s during the school year, where sisters nurture students’ body and soul as well as their academic growth.
Parents of St. Julie’s students currently pay a minimal fee which covers less than 25% of the cost of their education, room and board. This payment gives the parents a sense of ownership in the school and demonstrates the value they place on education.
To cover the gap, many friends of the SNDs here in the states have committed to sponsoring a student. The cost to underwrite one student is $600 for the year. A donation to the Sisters of Notre Dame to support a student is fully tax deductible.
Donors can be assured of the grateful prayers of the staff and students, as well as the prayers of the Sisters of Notre Dame around the world.
