Foundation Day, 2016

Foundation Day, 2016

soli-deo-smallOn October 1, the Sisters of Notre Dame will commemorate the 166th anniversary of our foundation in Coesfeld, Germany. How little did Hilligonde Wolbring (Sister Mary Aloysia) and Elisabeth Kuhling (Sister Mary Ignatia) realize the impact their lives would have, so many years later and so many miles away. As consecrated women religious, they chose to live for God alone—“soli Deo”—bringing hope to those in need.   Their compassion and selfless service first touched the lives of poor children in Germany, and in their spirit, the Congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame has blossomed throughout the world. Our mission has evolved and adapted to the changing needs of the times, but always committed to those in spiritual, physical or social need. The members of the California province rejoice in the abundance of graces and blessings that we have received through their example and inspiration.   We want to wish a “Happy Foundation Day” to everyone in the “SND Charism Family”—our relatives, Associates, colleagues, volunteers, donors and those who have been entrusted to our care over the years. In the spirit of St. Julie Billiart, our spiritual mother, we can say, indeed, “How good God is?”
