Sister Mary Lisa Megaffin will present “Lay People in Action: Beyond the Pews” (part of The University Series 2014) on Thursday, April 3rd, at 7:30 p.m. in the La Reina High School cafeteria.
Fifty years ago, the Second Vatican Council examined the role of the laity in carrying out the mission of Jesus Christ. Together with the clergy, laypeople are called to be leaven in the world. Theirs is a two-fold ministry, witnessing their faith both within the Church and in the everyday world of family, community and workplace.
The Associates of the Sisters of Notre Dame are lay men and women who feel drawn by the charism of the Sisters of Notre Dame to join the sisters in being a hope-filled presence in the world.
“Beyond the Pews” will examine The Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity from Vatican II and its implications for all baptized Catholics. It will also include a panel discussion by Associates of the Sisters of Notre Dame whose mission includes a deeper relationship with God through prayer, radical discipleship, and solidarity with the poor and marginalized.
